Sohotree is a Swiss company dedicated to sustainability, design, and responsible action. Sohotree products replace genuine leather with vegan ApplePeel, a sustainable alternative made from apples.

Apple Peel

A biosource material, ecological and 100% vegan.

Apple peel is part of the surplus byproduct from the food industry in South Tyrol, northern Italy. The recovered peel is dried and ground into powder. A company in Florence processes this into Apple Peel, our vegan leather alternative coated with a cotton base.

Sohotree – about SOHO and TREE.

«Our story began in 2018.» Lucas Knecht, searching for a suitable model for his stolen leather backpack, began to delve deeper into leather goods with his brother Claudius.

They soon realized that leather is considered a noble, high-quality material worldwide, and few people doubt this. However, as their extensive research revealed, leather is ecologically and ethically disastrous, not only in its origins, but especially in its production. They were shocked.

«We’ve always been drawn to the potential uses of leather. But both genuine leather and conventional synthetic leather have one major disadvantage: Neither is sustainable. From an ecological and ethical perspective, they’re not a solution for us.»

The brothers wanted to change this and create their own products that met their standards. «They should combine design, quality, function, and sustainability. No more empty compromises!»

They went on a search and discovered an innovative material that offered all the benefits of leather, but was not derived from animals and was also environmentally friendly. And best of all, they found it right on their doorstep: ApplePeel™.

This is how Sohotree was born: SOHO stands for urban design, TREE for nature and sustainability. «With Sohotree, we replace real leather with our vegan ApplePeel™, a sustainable alternative made from apples.» Development and design are carried out in Switzerland, and production is carried out in Italy. No compromises here either.
